An exhibition of photography in Gallery KusKovu
Prague (Czech Republic) - We cordially invite you to the opening of the Irish photographer d.p. Martin which will take place on Wednesday July 16, 2008 at 7 pm in Gallery KusKovu. The exhibition called “Image Noir et Blanc“ runs until August 16, 2008.
Martin’s Black & White Classic Art Nudes are influenced by the photos and images from the "Film Noir“ genre of European & American cinema of the period 1940's-1950's in which the female roles (femme fatales) were strong and dominant.
He finds inspiration in the films of Billy Wilder, later German film makers Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog and Polish director Krzysztof Kie¶lowski. Martin’s photographs are composed by combining a high contrast light source with the use of fabrics and are shot only on negative film (35mm, medium format).
d.p. Martin is exhibiting his large prints (100 x 80 cm) in Gallery KusKovu as well as smaller photographs (40 x 50 cm). A selection of these classical black and white photographs are printed individually by hand and crafted in a traditional wet darkroom environment. Martin works mostly with models in the city of Prague, Czech Republic. This location presents an ideal atmosphere for creativity and inspiration.
For the first time Gallery KusKovu (Piece of Metal) is exhibiting work not based on metal workmanship. “When I first saw d.p. Martin’s talented composition, texture and technique, I realised that it would perfectly complement the gallery’s permanent collection,” says gallery director Ivana ©pièáková.
