His Holiness the Dalai Lama is coming to Prague again

Dalai Lama following the invitation of the Czech Forum 2000 Foundation

Prague - At the invitation of Václav Havel and the Forum 2000 Foundation, Tibet’s spiritual supreme leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, is visiting Prague on 10 December. “On Sunday, 11 December, in cooperation with Charles University’s Faculty of Arts, a roundtable discussion will be held at its premises in Prague to commemorate the first anniversary of the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to leading Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo,” says Forum 2000 director Oldøich Èerný.

“This event is loosely linked to the “Peace, Democracy, and Human Rights in Asia” conference that we organised in 2009, which several Nobel Peace Prize laureates and many distinguished experts and activists attended in addition to the Dalai Lama.”

The main topic of the roundtable discussion will be the current state of democracy and human rights in Southeast Asia. Besides His Holiness, the Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi has confirmed her participation in the debate. Other participants who have confirmed their attendance include the last living co- author of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 93-year-old Stéphane Hessel from France, the leading Chinese dissident and president of Initiatives for China, Yang Jianli, and the former president of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel. The event is intended for students of Charles University and invited guests.

The Forum 2000 Foundation has prepared a lecture by the Dalai Lama on “Searching for Happiness in a Troubled World” for the general public on Sunday, 11 December, at 1:30 p.m. in Prague’s Congress Centre. The event will be consecutively interpreted into Czech and tickets are available through the Ticketpro network from November 28. Tickets are priced at 300 CZK and proceeds from the event will be used to support the Gyalten School in Tibet through the M.O.S.T. Civic Association.

On Monday, 12 December a press conference with His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be held in the Boscolo Carlo IV hotel in Prague. Time to be confirmed. Czech and foreign media professionals who wish to attend the press conference must register with filip.sebek@forum2000.cz no later than Wednesday, 7 December. If you do not receive a negative response to your request, you can consider your application to have been duly processed. For security reasons, it is necessary to arrive for the event at least 20 minutes in advance. The capacity of the venue is limited and applications to attend the event from representatives of Forum 2000’s media partners will be given priority.

All three events will be broadcast live online at www.forum2000.cz
