Art: The work of H.R. Giger will also be released on DVD

The company Deep Side Production is preparing a DVD release that will map the life and production of a famous Swiss artist

Prague (Czech Republic) - There is no need to introduce the well-known Swiss artist and author of bio-mechanical worlds H.R. Giger to the Prague public.

After the successful retrospective exhibition at the National Technical Museum that brought in more than thirty-five thousand visitors, there is going to be another presentation of his work, this time, in cinematographic form. A documentary film entitled “H.R. Giger Revealed" is the directing debut of David N. Jahn and will be a part of H.R. Giger’s first official DVD.

The world premiere of this unique visual act will take place on 1 October at the Archa Theatre together with the DVD release celebration. At the party afterwards attendees may meet, in addition to Giger and the film producers, the Alien itself…

Documentary director David Jahn started work as an assistant at Giger's studio in Zürich in 2000. After his departure back to Czech Republic he co-operated with Giger as an initiator and consultee of the Prague exhibition taking place from 14 April – 13 September 2005.

Jahn proposed to Giger to produce a DVD that would map his work and current life. After overcoming difficult beginnings he succeeded together with cameraman Zbynìk Kunc in joining cooperation with Stillking Film Production, which made the shooting of the documentary possible. The shoot took place at Giger’s studio in Zürich and in Gruyéres, where the H.R.
Giger museum and bar is located. In Vienna, they managed to film an interview with the Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs, and in New York the film-makers encountered Debbie Harry (Blondie), for whom Giger produced an album cover and two music-videos. On the vernissage, in Paris and Prague, they recorded an array of interviews with other personalities of the artistic and cultural world that will also appear in the film.

Even though the authors don’t avoid the particular developmental periods of Giger’s work, the main purpose was not to create the artist’s biography. In this case, it’s more likely considered to be an authentic perspective on the peculiar world of this Swiss artist.
